Privacy Policy - How We Handle Your Data

1. The Short Version

Font Generator doesn't collect personal information. Your text never leaves your browser. We use privacy-focused analytics to see which fonts are popular and which pages need improvement—but we can't identify individual users. No email collection, no account creation, no data selling. That's it.

2. What Actually Happens When You Use Our Font Generator

Here's exactly what data touches our servers and what stays on your device:

  • Your Text Input: Everything you type into the font generator stays in your browser. We never see it, never store it, never transmit it. The Unicode conversion happens entirely client-side using JavaScript. You can verify this by disconnecting your internet after the page loads—the font generator still works perfectly.
  • Local Browser Storage: Your preferences (dark mode, language choice), favorite fonts, and text history are saved in your browser's localStorage. This data never syncs to our servers. It's yours, stored locally, and disappears if you clear your browser data. We can't access it even if we wanted to.
  • Anonymous Analytics: We track page views and which font categories get clicked (e.g., '500 people viewed Instagram Fonts today'). We cannot see who those people are, what text they generated, or any identifying information. We use privacy-focused Umami Analytics (self-hosted) and Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization enabled. No tracking cookies, no cross-site tracking, no ad networks.

3. Why We Collect Analytics (And What We Actually Do With It)

We use anonymous usage data to make Font Generator better:

  • Prioritize Development: If we see 'Gothic Fonts' gets 10x more traffic than 'Monospace Fonts,' we know to add more Gothic variants. If mobile users bounce quickly from a page, we know that page needs mobile optimization.
  • Fix Bugs Faster: Analytics show us error rates and which browsers have issues. When we see a spike in errors on Safari iOS, we can reproduce and fix it without waiting for bug reports.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

We're transparent about every external service: Umami Analytics (self-hosted on our infrastructure, fully privacy-compliant, no cookies, no personal data), Google Analytics 4 (IP anonymization enabled, no user-ID tracking, no remarketing, no advertising features), Vercel Hosting (serves the website, logs are anonymized and auto-deleted after 24 hours, no personal data retention). That's the complete list. We don't use Facebook Pixel, ad networks, heatmaps, session recordings, or any tracking beyond basic analytics.

5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use minimal cookies: Analytics cookies (anonymous, no personal data, used only to count visits and prevent duplicate counting), Preference cookies (stores your theme and language choice locally, never transmitted to servers). We don't use advertising cookies, social media cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. You can block all cookies and Font Generator still works—you'll just need to re-select your theme each visit.

6. Your Rights & How to Exercise Them

You control your data: Access Your Data: Open your browser's Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage → fontgeneratoronline.org. That's everything we store locally. Delete Your Data: Clear your browser's localStorage or use incognito/private mode. Your history and favorites disappear instantly. Opt Out of Analytics: Enable 'Do Not Track' in your browser, use privacy extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger, or block analytics domains (analytics.google.com, our Umami instance). We respect DNT headers. Request Data Deletion: Since we don't collect personal data, there's nothing to delete on our end. But email us anyway if you have concerns—we'll confirm what (if anything) we have.

7. Data Security & Retention

We take security seriously: All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption. Our hosting provider (Vercel) maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance. Analytics data is anonymized and aggregated—we couldn't identify individual users even if legally compelled. We don't store payment info (because we don't charge for anything). Server logs are auto-deleted after 24 hours. No long-term data retention beyond aggregated analytics.

8. International Users & GDPR Compliance

Font Generator is available worldwide. For EU users: We comply with GDPR by not collecting personal data in the first place. No consent banners needed because we don't use tracking cookies. Your Unicode text conversions happen locally—no data crosses borders. Analytics are anonymized and don't constitute personal data under GDPR. You have the right to request information (we'll confirm we have none), deletion (nothing to delete), and portability (export your localStorage yourself via browser tools).

9. Children's Privacy

Font Generator doesn't knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect personal information, COPPA compliance is straightforward. Parents: your kids can use this tool safely. We can't identify them, track them, or contact them.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and change the 'Last Updated' date. Major changes (like adding new tracking) will be announced prominently on the homepage. We won't retroactively change how we handle existing data because we don't have any to change.
